OUR 51st CLASS REUNION WAS A BLAST After such a successful 50th class reunion last year, we weren’t quite sure what to expect this year. We had gone 25 years between reunions, except for an unsuccessful attempt to have a 30th reunion. As I was told, the 30th reunion was held at Don Callard’s home in Del Mar. Our worries were short lived because our 51st class reunion at the Courtyard Marriott turned out to be a success, and we all had a real blast.
Not only did we have a reunion banquet on
Saturday, October 2, but we had a great get together the evening before at
the Casa Machado Mexican Restaurant
The reunion banquet was planned to start at 5:30pm, but the dozen or so classmates that where staying at the Courtyard Marriott got together for breakfast, then reassembled in Helen Bullock’s suite where they continued to |
chat for most of the day. Quite a few
classmates came early to meet in the hotel lounge before the banquet.
All-in-all, it was a full and wonderful day before the main event had even
started. When the official social hour started, must of the people were
already there. The social hour was held outside on the patio, but overflowed
into the main banquet room.
Before we knew it, the social hour was over and we all went inside to enjoy
our dinner. We had a great menu, with salad, steak, salmon, chicken, and
desert. It was a very casual atmosphere, and we spent some
quality time with our old friends. When the closing announcement was given,
we were all still chatting like a bunch of hens. Not wanting to stop in the
middle of their stories, a bunch of us retired to the hotel lounge, where we
could continue with our stories. Not having near enough time together, the majority of those who attended the banquet also found their way to the annual Kearny Alumni Picnic at Mission Bay. Not only did we get to |
A special thanks to the reunion planning committee for a job well done. FEATURED CLASSMATES BILL YOUNG Bill was an avid outdoorsman during his high school years, and would head for
the mountains and wilderness areas every summer to live the life of an
adventurer. After graduating from Kearny, Bill went San Diego Junior College
were he obtained an AA degree in Mechanical Drafting, After graduation, he
joined Convair as a draftsman in an engineering design group. It didn't take
him long to figure out that the engineers with a four-year degree were being
