v  Class of '53 2011 Luncheon Schedule - We will continue to hold the class luncheons on the first Monday of every other month.  The luncheons will be at the Sizzler Restaurant on Murphy Canyon Road at the intersection of Aero Drive and I-15.  Be there at 11:15am.  Bring your spouse, a guest, or just come alone, but please try to make it.  We promise that you'll have a good time.  Someone please bring a camera and send the pictures to Lou Whitney at lou@kearny53.com so we can add them to our photo albums page.  Following are the details concerning the luncheon.

Those that attended the class luncheon's this year had a wonderful time, and we hope to see some new faces at the 2012 luncheon's.

Bring a friend, or a classmate from another year.

v Kearny All Classes Picnic - The 2011 picnic is scheduled for Sunday,  October 3rd.  This years picnic will be held at Admiral Backer Field. Click here for map. The Class of 53 will furnish food for members of our class. Of course,  you are welcome to bring a dish if you wish. If you live out of town or decide to come at the last minute, you won't have to worry about bringing food. You might also want to bring your own chair and a small cooler with your favorite beverage.  Call Stan Elmore at 858 672 0461 if you have any questions about the picnic.

TERRY W. LEE - September 18, 1934 to January 20, 2011 Terry Lee was born and lived his whole life in San Diego. Thinker, Dreamer, Inventor, Builder and Storyteller; he was kind, steady and forgiving to a fault and he was loved by all who met him. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, his daughters Paula (Joe), Terry (Jeff), Linda (Blake), seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Service on Monday, January 31, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. A celebration of Terry's life will be held at his daughter's (Linda Harris) home immediately following the funeral services. The address is 5641 Linfield Avenue, San Diego, CA 92120. All of his friends are welcome.

 

STANLEY DAVID THOMAS - December 4, 1935 to March 7, 2011.  Terry arrived in  San Diego in 1936, attended Kearny High School, retired from Federal Government after 39 years of service.  Member of the Elks Lodge and American Legion 731 where he was Bar Manager of the Padre Gold.  Enjoyed golfing, camping with Poway Elks, Kearny Mesa VFW and his annual trips to the White Mountains of Arizona, singing Karaoke and avid about Charger football - attending 43 years without missing a regular season home game.  Stan is survived by two brothers, two sons, wife, Mikki, and great friends with good memories.  Celebration of Life 3/20/2011 at the Poway Elks Lodge, 13219 Poway Road, Poway, CA 858-748-2543 starting at 1:00pm.

FLICK, MELVIN WEAVER August 27, 1935 to October 15, 2011 - Melvin Weaver Flick of El Cajon California died on Saturday, October 15, at the age of 76. He was born in Franklin, Pennsylvania on August 27, 1935. The son of Edmond and Maude Weaver Flick and youngest of four children. Melvin spent his early years in Pennsylvania before moving with his family to San Diego in 1945. In 1953, he graduated from Kearny High School where he met and fell in love with Sharon Hoyt. Melvin and Sharon were married in 1957 and were living in El Cajon at the time of Sharon's death in 1989. Melvin is survived by their son Eric, by his daughter-in-law, Linda Magnuson, a granddaughter Sarah, a great-granddaughter Jenna and a brother John. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Norma Shea, and his brother Gerald. Melvin was a unassuming person with a wonderful sense of humor who enjoyed being with his family and friends. He also enjoyed athletics, both as a participant and an observer. He was a very good baseball and basketball player. After serving in the United States Army for two years, he enjoyed a long and successful career with the Safeway Company from which he retired. He will be missed by everyone. Celebration of Life will be held on October 29, 2011, at 113 North Park Drive, El Cajon, CA 92021 at 11 a.m. Casual Dress Attire.
